Autism parents (and others!) take note
I have found a great blog called autisticspeaks.blogspot.com. Read and inwardly digest, people, you will learn a lot from Lydia. And for those of you who know my Bear - read very carefully, for this is what we have. They are so similar it is scary.
I haven't had time to look all through your blog so I don't know if you have come accross a diet for controlling epilepsy but my friends daughter has Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy and has been on a special diet (through Great Ormond Street) and her seizures have gone from 3/4 a week and frequently life threatenting to 4 in the past 3 years when she started the diet. The change was immediate in seizure activity and it has been amazing to see this child emerge as the side effects of the drugs have been over come. She is 12 and a half now.
Hello and welcome Annicles! I have heard of a diet - a high fat one - but unfortunately Scrumpy has food issues and we struggle to get her to eat a balanced diet as it is. She doesn't eat cheese other than soft cheese and occasionally cheese on a pizza, absolutely no milk or yoghurt type things. It's a tricky one, as I would love to have her on less medication and diet is key but frustratingly I can't see way of getting it to work.
The good news tho' She has been seizure free for 15 days since starting (yet another!) new medication. Fingers crossed!
I have a husband (Hot Hubby) who writes here too and two girls (Scrumpy and Bear), both of whom have severe autism and epilepsy. In 2005 we sold our computer services business and house to move 612 miles north to The Scottish Highlands. We now live in the backend of nowhere, where we try to manage the chaos of life and keep smiling through the challenges.
