We have LIVESTOCK!!!

Firstly, I am pleased to say we're back to normal, our normal, and my mother has gone home. We love visitors but they are a distraction...

Of far more importance and interest is the news that our family has swelled! We are now the proud owners of 3 muscovy ducks, a dozen assorted chickens (for eggs) and a cockerell. They arrive next Wednesday so of course I will post pictures of their arrival.

Poly tunnel news - some numpty (Hmmmm who could that be? Me? Surely not!) forgot to turn the tap off on the hose, which then burst, and turned it into a swimming pool. Still, the strawberries won't need watering for a while!

I almost dare not report that the weather has been pretty decent of late.

A cockerell are you mad? Thought you had enough problems being allowed to sleep through the night. He'll have you up bright and early especially if this beautiful weather continues.

I'm excited for your new animals, but I have questions regarding each set:

1) For the life of me I can't figure out (or look up) what a cockerell is. If only there were a Scottish Wikipedia?

2) I didn't know there were domesticated ducks. Will you be eating the muscovy ducks?

3) Does an "assortment of chickens" produce an assortment of eggs? The only chicken eggs I know of, having been shopping at supermarkets all my life, come in brown or white, small, large or x-large. Am I missing out?

Jim it's a rooster, a male chicken that says cock-a-doodle-doo.

We will be eating duck eggs (with black pudding mmmmmmm yummy!)

Different chickens produce different coloured eggs - brown, white, blue in a range of sizes according to breed and age. I will post pictures of them for you!
